Bedspreads, Duvets and Comforters
Comforters, duvets and bedspreads will remain on your bed on average for five to six years. Most of us love to get warm and cozy, all snuggled up with our comforters and blankets at night. But you may not be so comfortable if you knew how dirty they could be. These loved items are often neglected in the cleaning department.
How Often to Clean Your Bedding?
If you use a flat sheet, it does reduce your direct contact with your comforter, but it still collects dust and other allergens. Therefore, if you use a top sheet or duvet cover, we recommend cleaning your comforter, duvet or bedspread at least once every three months or with the change of season. If you do not use a top sheet or duvet cover, or you are sensitive to allergies, clean your comforter once a week along with your sheets and pillowcases. Doctors also recommend cleaning all of your bedding after someone has been sick.
Tips for Cleaning
While cleaners are clothing care experts, they also know a thing or two about household textiles, which, in addition to bedspreads, duvets and comforters, include blankets, upholstery, slipcovers, pillows, rugs, and heirloom textiles.
To protect and prolong the beauty of your household textiles remember these basic tips:
- Protect all furnishings from sunlight, fumes, and pets.
- Damage, like tears, should be repaired immediately.
- Vacuum and/or brush to remove dust regularly.
- Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations.
- Do not allow the item to become extremely soiled, and have any stains removed immediately.
- Do not store household textiles that are not clean and stain free.
